In Chad, a Link NCA was conducted by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in 7 camps, 5 Sudanese refugee camps in the east and 2 Central African refugee camps in the south of the country, with the aim of understanding the disparities in prevalence rates between camps.

The prevalence rates of global acute malnutrition in the 7 refugee camps are as high as 18.9%.

This Link NCA study in Chad was also an opportunity to implement the new Link NCA methodology adapting to heterogeneous areas such as the camps.

The results show different causes and mechanisms depending on the camps and at the same time show the importance of access to land in the food and nutritional security of refugees. Common major risk factors were identified:

  • Women's overwork,
  • Women's social status,
  • Low agricultural production,
  • Reduction in the ration distributed by the World Food Programme (WFP),
  • Low access to drinking water and poor seasoning practices.

  • At the end of this study, programmatic recommendations were formulated. For more information, consult the full report.
